General Information about Knock Airport
Ireland West Airport Knock is an award-winning facility, and it exceeds expectations for a terminal of this size. Its popularity is due, in large part, to the success of Knock Shrine, where an apparition of the Virgin Mary appeared to devotees in 1879. When Pope John Paul II visited Knock for the centennial of this event, Knock Shrine’s status as an iconic pilgrimage site was solidified.
With that in mind, the majority of the more than 600,000 passengers who land at Knock each year are here to see the shrine. The airport accommodates them well and offers plenty of choices in terms of dining and shopping. Approximately 25 routes are in operation at various times throughout the year, with regular service operated by Ryanair, Flybe and Aer Lingus.
The airport is operated by the Connaught Airport Development Company, Ltd, with growth and development ongoing. The terminal has been awarded the title of Ireland’s ‘Best Regional Airport’ twice in recent memory, and the government is injecting tens of millions of pounds euros into further renovations.
