County Wicklow Information

County Wicklow is situated along the East of Ireland and is surrounded by five Counties including Dublin, Meath, Kilkenny, Carlow and Wexford. The remainder of the County is bordered by the Irish Sea. The main geographical formations of the County are the Granite based Wicklow Mountains. The River Liffey which flows through Dublin City Centre originates in the Wicklow Mountains.

Glendalough (the Glen of Two Lakes) Monastery dates back to the 6th Century and Saint Kevin. The Highlands were successful in protecting the Gaelic traditions until the invasion of the English. Many of the stately homes in Wicklow date back to this period.
