Cork: An Introduction

Cork is situated in the South of Ireland on the banks of the River Lee. Cork is situated roughly 300km South of Dublin and is easily accessible by road, rail or by Air. Cork is the second largest city in Ireland.

Cork developed as an important port town and settlement in the area dates back to a 7th-century monastery. Cork was raided and burned in 821, 846, and 1012 by Norsemen who eventually settled there and founded a trading centre on the banks of the Lee.

Today Cork is still a busy harbour town but the industry in is more diversified and today Chemical factories are equally at home in Cork. In fact Viagra is made in Cork.

Among the attractions that Cork has to offer are the surrounding towns of Kinsale and Cobh along with the stunning natural beauty that is offered in West Cork and in County Kerry.
