General Information about Cork Airport
Cork Airport is run by the Dublin Airport Authority and serves Cork City and the surrounding areas. The airport is situated on the south side of the city and mainly handles scheduled and charter flights to and from Europe. Cork Airport has been gradually growing since its opening in 1961, and during 2006 handled over 3million passengers making it the thrid larget airport in Ireland in terms of passenger numbers.
In 2006, a new terminal was opened at Cork Airport which will give the airport the ability to handle greater numbers of passengers and cargo. The new terminal will allow Cork Airport to handle passenger numbers in excess of 5million each year. Cork Airport has two runways (17/35 which is 2,133 meters long and is surfaced by asphalt) and (01/25 which is 1,310 meters long and is surfaced by a combination of Asphalt and Concrete.)
